Doesn't your pulse drop while recovering from a workout? This is the answer : IDOVEN

In today's post we bring you another real case of a consultation that came to us through the contactform.

Semi-professional sportsman, aged between 30 and 40, who actively trains on a bicycle to improve his aerobic capacity and to have a better performance on the bike.

We have already seen on the blog cases of other athletes who have high pulse peaks when running. You can read the post: "my heart rate goes up a lot when I'm training" if you have any questions.

Or situations like Javier's that he had palpitations and dizziness while training for 3 years and put himself in the hands of IDOVEN to understand what his heart problem was.

But today's case is somewhat special. This athlete had a peak of 190 heartbeats right at the end of a series in his specific training.

This is the message we received:

"I had a training with series, ending with 4 series of 1' at about 450 W that made me play at the end of the series 182/183 ppm...

The thing is that in the fourth series I touched 182 ppm and stopped pedaling completely at the end of the minute, and the pulse still went up to 190 ppm after stopping, I insist, after finishing the series...

I touched 190 ppm and it went down in a few seconds, but I was a little worried about that steep climb having already cut the effort.

 

This case is a special case. The athlete knows how his body reacts at all times and is training to obtain a specific performance at a certain wattage.

At first glance you can sense that something is not working well. If the athlete has a target of 182-183 beats per minute in each series and, at the end, his pulse keeps going up to 190 beats, it is most likely that he has some heart problem such as an arrhythmia known as extrasystole, tachycardia or atrial fibrillation.

After passing through the hands of IDOVEN we found the problem the sportsman had:

Atrial fibrillation that is accentuated by long-term, high-level sports practice.

The treatment, once we monitored the athlete's performance for 12 days, was a small operation consisting of the ablation of the pulmonary veins.

Now the athlete is doing regular physical activity and monitors his heart every year to check that everything is working properly.
